The UAE Football Association’s technical committee (TC) have decided to terminate the contract of the national Olympic team coach, Frenchman Alex Duponte, following his failure to take the team to the third round of the Olympic qualifiers.

Duponte, who began his work with the UAE Olympic team in September 2006, did not achieve success with them in the Asian qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics 2008.

The UAE finished third in group F with six points. They lost home and away matches against South Korea and Uzbekistan.

They bagged six points by beating Yemen at home and away to finish third in the group. South Korea and Uzbekistan won first and second places respectively and qualified to next round.
