Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An incident occurred today, on 7 November, at a mine in the city of Abay in Karaganda region of Kazakhstan- 6 people died due to methane emissions, two more were injured, NUR.KZ correspondent reports citing an official representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a message about the state of emergency was received by the Emergency Situations Department at 9.30 am. It was reported that methane was released at the bottom of the ventilation drift in the Abay mine. According to preliminary information, at the time of the emergency there were 64 workers in the mine.
In the face, where exactly the methane was released, there were previously 8 workers. By this hour, 6 dead and 2 injured are known. Information on the condition of the victims is being specified.
On behalf of Prime Minister Mamin, a commission headed by the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Yuri Ilyin left for the scene. The circumstances and causes of the tragedy are being investigated. The incident was commented on by the akim of Karaganda region Zhenis Kasymbek on his Facebook page.
According to the akim, 52 people have been raised from the mine to the surface. “At the moment, rescue work continues. I offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The families of the victims will receive the necessary assistance,” Kassymbek wrote.
