Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 7 to 10 October 2019, Tashkent will host a training for young professionals in the field of cinematography on the subject "Fundamentals of the Art of Documentary Cinema". The organizer of the training is the UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan.

The training is aimed at gaining knowledge and new experience in the field of creating documentary films. Participants of the training are students and teachers of the State Institute of Arts and Culture of Uzbekistan, students of the Focus film school, as well as independent young professionals working in the field of documentary cinema.

Mr. Maciej Drygas, Polish documentary film director, teacher at the Lodz Film School, author of the films “Voice of Hope” (2002), “One Day in Poland” (2006), “Abu Haraz” (2013) was invited to conduct the training.

During an intensive four-day training, participants will consider the genre features of the author’s documentary film, master the theory and art of constructing documentary works, learn how to work with archival materials, learn various shooting methods, and learn how to prepare a pitch for a film project.

Documentary cinema plays an important role in the development of culture and human values ​​and is one of the forms of cultural heritage protection. Unlike fiction films, documentaries do not create a “new world”, but describe an existing one and reflect reality. Based on existing facts, as well as the authenticity of stories and events, documentary films, by definition, serve as education and enlightenment. The ability to work in the genre of documentary films is a good basis for creating films that affect the viewer's worldview.

In this regard, it is very important to assist in its development and promotion, in particular, through regular educational trainings, as well as through the inclusion of special courses in the programs of specialized educational institutions of Uzbekistan.

The training on the basics of documentary cinema is carried out as part of the UNESCO project “Strengthening the cultural and creative industries in Laos, Uzbekistan and Rwanda”, which started in 2017 with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, as well as in the framework of the audiovisual policy cooperation department of culture and cooperation of the Embassy of France in Uzbekistan.
