Development processes in Uzbekistan were discussed with the participation of representatives of the World Bank

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 November, a meeting was held in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis with representatives of the World Bank.

It should be noted that last year the board of directors of this prestigious international financial organization approved a program of cooperation with our country for 2022-2026.

Today, the World Bank is implementing large-scale projects in the country to combat poverty, develop a development strategy and finance projects for the development of entrepreneurship, modernize rural infrastructure and medium-sized cities, implement a strategy to ensure employment for women and train young people in professions and healthcare.

In particular, it is planned to support the economic opportunities of women through grant funds from the bank in the amount of US$2.7 million, to train entrepreneurial skills for 3,500 women included in the “women’s notebook” living in remote villages in Furkat, Uchkuduk, Yozevan, Kushtepa districts of Fergana region and Yangiabad, Bakhmal, Farish, Zaamin districts of Jizzakh region, take measures to finance the business plans of 350 women.

During the meeting, projects jointly implemented by the World Bank in the field of human capital development and gender equality were discussed.

Representatives of ministries and departments participating in these projects, as well as World Bank specialists, were involved in the dialogue.

Representatives of a reputable financial organization conducted a number of studies in our country and prepared a conclusion on the results of a gender assessment in Uzbekistan. It presents the work being done in our country in 4 areas: gender norms and social expectations, human capital, economic opportunity, and efforts to expand women’s voice and freedom.

Representatives of the World Bank noted that the assessment conclusions were prepared on the basis of work, research, observations conducted in the country in 2018-2022 and partly in 2023, and statistical data.

During the discussion, representatives of ministries and departments paid attention to the issues of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women in Uzbekistan, increasing their economic, social and political activity, and ensuring gender equality.

In turn, representatives of the World Bank noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has carried out large-scale reforms in this direction, the results of which are important to reflect in the conclusion.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to finalize the final document taking into account the proposals and comments made.
