Development of lithium mine planned in Tashkent region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The development of a lithium mine is planned in Akhangaran District of Tashkent Region. This information was shared by the press secretary of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan, Azamat Akabirov, in an article for the publication "Infozacon."

According to him, as part of the "Uzbekistan – 2030" strategy, geological exploration works are planned to increase hydrocarbon raw material reserves and to modernize and digitize the sector over 60 thousand square meters, with the involvement of foreign investors.

The intention to start lithium mining in Uzbekistan was announced in 2023 at the Tashkent International Industrial Exhibition "Innoprom." One of the investment proposals is the development of the Nurliikon lithium mine in the Akhangaran District. Nurliikon, with reserves of more than 123 thousand tons of lithium, rivals similar deposits in the USA and China.

The article also highlights the significant untapped potential of important minerals for industrial needs discovered in the country. Specifically, 32 types of such minerals have been identified.

The domestic geological sector is allocated one trillion soms annually. As a result of targeted programs, the production volume in the mining industry reached nearly 11 billion dollars last year, the article states.
