Democratic reforms, civil society development considered in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference titled “Issues of further deepening democratic reforms in Uzbekistan – implementation of concept on transition from strong state to strong civil society” opened at the Institute on studying civil society in Tashkent on 25 November.

The event was organized by the Institute on studying civil society, Parliamentary Commission on management of resources of Public Fund under Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, National University of Uzbekistan, Public Fund on support and development of independent mass media and information agencies of Uzbekistan, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

Over 15 foreign experts from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Ukraine and representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions, accredited in Uzbekistan, are participating at the meeting.

The forum is aimed at exchanging opinion on implementation of concept on transition from strong government to strong civil society, raising role of civil society role in deepening democratic reforms and forming civil society.

Concept on further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in Uzbekistan, announced by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov at joint session of parliament on 12 November, is on focus of the participants of the conference.

In his speech, the Uzbek leader announced legislative initiatives on further deepening democratic reforms and forming civil society. In particular, he called to strengthen role and impact of parliament, achieve balanced and sustainable balance between all authorities, increasing role of parliament, etc.
