Demand for international road transport in Uzbekistan almost doubled

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Demand for transportation to Uzbekistan from other countries increased by 88%. Demand for transportation from Uzbekistan to other countries increased by 50%. The leading destinations are Russia and Belarus, transportation from Germany and Poland has dipped. The data is provided by the international Freight Exchange ATI.SU.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, the demand for international transportation of goods by road increased in Uzbekistan. According to the international "ATI.SU Freight Exchange", the number of applications for transportation to Uzbekistan from other countries in the first quarter increased by 88% compared to the same period last year.

Russia is the leader in terms of the number of applications, where the growth was 89%. Similar dynamics in the first quarter ATI.SU fixes on the delivery of goods from Kazakhstan and Belarus. But transportation from Germany and Poland, on the contrary, sank significantly - by 32% and 41%, respectively.

Demand for export transportation is also growing (+50%). The number of applications for transportation to Belarus has doubled and by 65% to Russia.

“The growth in demand in the Russian and Belarusian direction was a logical result of Western sanctions, including a ban on the work of Russian and Belarusian transport companies in Europe. As a result, we see a large-scale restructuring of the supply chains of these countries in favor of friendly countries, including Uzbekistan.

For the same reason, trade relations between Russia and Belarus are growing with other countries of Central Asia, as well as the Transcaucasus. There is both a simple circumvention of sanctions through transit and parallel imports, as well as a real change of partners, and among them, the number of companies from Uzbekistan is increasing,” comments Farid Vakhidov, director of the representative office of the international ATI.SU Freight Exchange in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, rates have not yet risen following demand, and have even declined somewhat. It can be concluded that the increase in supply keeps pace with demand.

“In the near future, these trends will probably continue, although the mentioned positive effect of the sanctions has largely been exhausted. On the other hand, China, which is opening up after the COVID-19 restrictions, can become a new driver of growth,” predicts Farid Vakhidov.
