Delegation from Mongolia discusses energy reforms with World Bank experts in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a visit to Uzbekistan, a delegation headed by Togmidiyn Dorjhand, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, met with the World Bank team in Tashkent.

The meeting focused on Uzbekistan’s experience in implementing energy sector reforms with the support of the Bank.

World Bank representatives presented their assessments of the energy sector reforms since 2017, highlighting Uzbekistan’s significant efforts and the Bank’s role in implementing these reforms. Special attention was given to the development of the wholesale and retail electricity markets, modernization of electricity transmission infrastructure, and attracting private investment in the renewable energy sector.

The discussions also covered Uzbekistan’s efforts to improve the centralized heating system, increase energy efficiency, and transition to a green economy. The World Bank continues to provide technical assistance and implement funded projects in these areas.

The Mongolian delegation expressed interest in strengthening knowledge exchange between Mongolia, Central Asia, and World Bank-supported countries. Bank representatives emphasized their readiness to continue supporting this process as part of their work to strengthen the capacities of client countries.
