Customs Committee implements AI for goods identification

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Representatives of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan and IBM held a videoconference to mark the completion of the first phase of the pilot project “Identification of Specific Classifications Using Product Information and Artificial Intelligence” and to discuss the next steps for its implementation.

The project involved over ten IBM staff members, as well as officials from the Customs Department, Information and Communication Technologies, and Cybersecurity departments of the Customs Committee.

The project aims to enhance the processing of information by customs authorities through the use of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, cloud technologies, and language models.

For example, if a customs declaration includes a general product classification, the AI within the project will divide all characteristics into specific categories, allowing for more accurate product classification.

This will help prevent situations where crucial information, which should be included in declarations, is overlooked in the risk management system modules. Successful implementation of the project will enable complete product identification and significantly reduce the workload on customs authorities.
