Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov held a briefing on the current sanitary-epidemiological and socio-economic situations in the country.

As of 20 August, 42,507 cases of coronavirus infection were identified, 35,486 people were cured, 1,054 people died. About 200 patients are registered daily.

According to the head of government, against the background of stabilization of the situation with the spread of coronavirus, the state will focus on solving the following socio-economic problems:

- firstly, improvement of the state of existing and construction of new social and infrastructure facilities. According to official data, it is planned to repair and build 181 social facilities. Among them there are 14 healthcare facilities that will be equipped with appropriate equipment and personnel.

It is emphasized that the construction of hospitals is currently the most urgent in view of the possible "second wave" of the epidemic in the autumn-winter season. In addition, the Prime Minister stressed that about US$1.3 million has been allocated from the budget for the development and improvement of border areas;

- secondly, construction and renovation of drinking water supply systems for the population. K. Boronov said that 79 villages will be provided with drinking water in 2020-2021. For this it is envisaged to allocate an additional US$3.2 million (to date, about US$1.9 million has been allocated). It should be noted that the funds come from the PRC, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other financial institutions.

Along with this, K. Boronov said that the government is actively preparing for the parliamentary elections to be held on October 4 this year. Currently, a set of measures is being developed aimed at holding elections with ensuring sanitary standards.

Experts conclude that the Kyrgyz government, through the implementation of infrastructure projects in the country, on the one hand, increases the level and quality of life in remote areas, on the other, it creates new jobs, which is most relevant in a crisis.
