Uzbekistan 12/11/2007 CSTO, SCO to assist Afghanistan in rebuilding effort
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states will help Afghanistan in its post-conflict rebuilding effort, Interfax reported.

"At a session in Moscow on Friday the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers’ working group on Afghanistan decided to approach the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-Afghanistan Contact Group with a proposal to establish cooperation on post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan," CSTO press secretary Vitaly Strugovets told Interfax-AVN.

The decision was made in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the CSTO Secretariat and SCO in Dushanbe on 5 October, he said.

The working group "has analyzed all the difficulties the Afghanistan government and people are facing and discussed the specific problems to be resolved by the CSTO members in order to provide assistance to the Afghan people in the post-conflict reconstruction of the country," he said.

The CSTO consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
