The coordination council will elect its chairman, will set up a working group composed of experts of the CSTO migration services, interior bodies (police), security and border services, will discuss issues concerning the organisation of joint coordinated operational actions in 2008 and special operations aimed at counteracting illegal migration including human trafficking and will approve the action plan for the current year, BelTA reported.

The coordination council of heads of the law enforcement bodies of the CSTO handling issues relating to the fight against illegal migration was founded on 6 October 2007 in line with the relevant resolution of the CSTO Council.

Its main goal is to provide assistance in preparing and holding coordinated operational actions and special operations aimed at counteracting illegal migration, to ensure cooperation between authorised bodies in order to enhance efficiency of the fight against illegal migration and offences connected with it, to put forward proposals relating to joint practical measures aimed at combating illegal migration.
