Uzbekistan 09/10/2009 CSTO FMs call to sign agreement on Eurasian security

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) supported the initiative of Russia on signing agreement on European security. Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan issued statement as official document of the 64th session of the UN General Assembly.

The statement said the CSTO member states will promote this initiative within various international formats. CSTO states underlined importance of creation of sustainable system of international collective security on the bases of commonly accepted principles and norms of international law.

The statement underlined the central role of the UN in promotion of peace and international security.

The CSTO FMs said they are for single, equal and indivisible security system for all states of Euro-Atlantic and Eurasia area and underlined importance of firm adherence to obligations on not strengthening own security at the expense of others.

The organization called to hold meeting of the heads of the CSTO, NATO, the European Union, CIS and OSCE to discuss security strategies of the organizations as a first step for formation of indivisible security space.
