Cross Works advises the Government of Uzbekistan on the "New Tashkent" project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — British company Cross Works has been selected as the lead consultant for the "New Tashkent" project after an international competition.

The company is working with the government of Uzbekistan to develop a master plan for the creation of a new city, which will provide a foundation for its growth for decades to come.

Cross Works’ tasks include the development of the master plan, overseeing and coordinating the work of the international project team, which comprises more than a dozen companies, including engineers, landscape architects, and other specialists. The company has also created a digital twin of the project, which is a virtual replica of the city that will evolve alongside its real-world construction.

As noted by Cross Works founder Hakan Agca, the master plan should not be static. The company’s goal is to create a digital twin that adapts and evolves in almost real-time. The digital twin includes 2D and 3D analyses of the urban environment, geolocation visualizations, virtual tours, as well as detailed engineering and economic forecasts.

A simplified version of the digital twin has been created for the general public, providing access to project information for stakeholders, investors, and future residents. According to Agca, this is a true evolution in urban planning, revolutionizing the ways master plans are presented and engaging the public.

The company has also developed the "Tashkent Code" — a comprehensive guide to urban planning for the district, which will replace outdated planning regulations from the Soviet era. The code is designed to guide the development of the city, providing flexibility and creativity in its design.

In the coming months, architectural recommendations for the first district of "New Tashkent" will be presented, as well as other projects, including the design of a cultural center developed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Cross Works and other projects in Uzbekistan will be showcased at international conferences, including MIPIM in Cannes in March 2025.
