Court cancels nationalization of MTS Uzbek subsidiary’s assets
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, announced that the Appeal Board of Tashkent City Court on criminal affairs considered appeal of Uzdunrobita, 100% subsidiary of MTS in Uzbekistan, on decision of Tashkent City Court on criminal affairs from 17 September 2012 in relation of four employees of MTS Uzbekistan and abolished decision of the court of the first instance on handing over property of Uzdunrobita to the government.

The appeal court said that Uzdunrobita should pay US$600 million of financial claims, which can be paid in several installments within eight months.

At the same time, the Appeal Board made MTS a civil defendant in the case against the four top managers of the company and abolished arrest of the company’s assets, which was imposed by the court of the first instance on 17 September 2012. Decision of the Tashkent court against four employees of MTS Uzbekistan will stand.

"We are satisfied with the fact that MTS arguments during court processes have been heard and that the demands of the company have partially been satisfied. This shows that there are opportunities for mutual beneficial ways of solving this situation and to conduct constructive work to settle disagreements," MTS Chief Executive Andrei Dubovskov said in a statement.

The decision of the Appeal Board came into force on 8 November 2012. MTS said it will decide further moves on protection of its interest after it receives and studies materials of the case and documents from the Appeal Board.
