Cooperation with the UN in achieving the SDGs to be strengthened

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 August, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the acting UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Consuelo Vidal Bruce.

During the conversation, the current state and prospects for cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UN and its specialized structures were discussed. Particular attention is paid to the role of parliament in achieving sustainable development goals.

As noted, in order to exercise effective parliamentary control over the implementation of national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development since 2020, the parliamentary commission systematically studies the problems and the current state of affairs in the field of sustainable development, and appropriate measures are constantly taken. It was emphasized that the laws submitted to the parliament are considered for compliance with the goals of sustainable development.

Thanks to these efforts, in the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Index, Uzbekistan has risen by 8 positions and ranked 69th among 166 countries of the world. Today, the experience of Uzbekistan on the SDGs became an example for other countries.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on preparations for the SDG summit, which will be held in September 2023 as part of the High Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Summit will open a new stage in the achievement of the SDGs and aims to achieve high-level political commitment through a constructive dialogue between the international community, national governments, civil society institutions and other partners to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation on the issues discussed.
