Cooperation with the International Organization for Migration will expand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 September, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva, received a delegation led by the regional director of the International Organization for Migration for Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Manfred Profazi.

Issues of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Organization for Migration in supporting citizens temporarily working abroad and members of their families and combating human trafficking were considered.

For information, it should be noted that with the accession of Uzbekistan to the International Organization for Migration as a full member in 2019, cooperation relations reached a new level.

Today, the Practical Action Plan for 2021–2023 (“Road Map”) to develop cooperation between Uzbekistan and IOM is being successfully implemented. Within its framework, important measures in the field of migration were implemented, practical work was carried out on managing border control and combating human trafficking.

During the dialogue, a number of proposals for developing cooperation were also discussed.

In particular, they include issues of improving migration policy, combating human trafficking and introducing international standards in the field of migration, developing a plan of practical measures together with the Republican Commission to support women’s labor migration.

An exchange of views also took place on the development and implementation of a regional project to support migrants from Central Asian countries who find themselves in difficult situations in foreign countries.

Following the meeting, which was held in a constructive and practical spirit, an agreement was reached to expand cooperation projects between Uzbekistan and the International Organization for Migration.
