Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Construction of a new tunnel and road will begin at the Takhtakoracha pass. This was reported during an extraordinary session of the Kashkadarya Regional Kengash of People’s Deputies.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the session.

At the meeting, officials were instructed to soften the requirements for travel through the Takhtakorach pass.

Next year, construction of a new tunnel and road will begin on the Takhtakoracha pass.

Together with Chinese investors, repair work on the 30-kilometer road connecting Samarkand and Shakhrisabz will begin.

Also, US$122.5 million will be allocated for the repair of a 100-kilometer section of the Guzor-Bukhara-Nukus-Beyneu road passing through Kashkadarya.

In general, next year the goal is to increase the number of foreign tourists to 500 thousand.
