Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 April 2023, a meeting of an expert group was held at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk to agree on a draft Decision of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth on the establishment of a medal "For Contribution to Strengthening Peace". This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The event was attended by authorized representatives and experts from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Secretariat of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth Member States and the CIS Executive Committee.
Opening the meeting of the expert group, Deputy Director of the Department for Security Cooperation and Countering New Challenges and Threats of the CIS Executive Committee Alim Dzhaksybekov noted that it was taking place as part of the implementation of the Decision of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS states of June 24, 2022 on the establishment in the Commonwealth of the medal "For Contribution to the strengthening of peace." The meeting participants discussed the draft Decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State on this issue. As a result of the meeting, it was decided to send the materials of the meeting of the expert group to the states for the procedure of intrastate approval of the draft Decision, after which it will be submitted in the prescribed manner for consideration by the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of CIS Heads of State.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation came up with the initiative to establish the award, considering cooperation in the CIS format as a factor in ensuring peace, stability, good neighborly relations and the establishment of humanistic values.
The medal "For Contribution to the Strengthening of Peace" will be an interstate insignia reflecting the recognition of special personal merits and distinctions of citizens of the CIS states, as well as representatives of other states in strengthening peace and maintaining international security.
