Economy 08/06/2009 CIS countries decreased the GDP by nearly 9% in 2009

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During January-April of 2009, Ukraine showed the highest decrease of the industrial production among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States compared to the same period of 2008 - 31.9%, declared the Intergovernmental Committee of Statistics of the CIS on 2 June.

During January-April, the decrease of the industrial production in Moldova totaled 25.7% compared to the level of January-April of 2008, in Kyrgyzstan - 15.6%.

In January-April, the industrial production in Russia lowered by 14.9%.

During four month of 2009, the industrial production in Tajikistan decreased by 11.9%, in Armenia - by 11.1%, in Kazakhstan - by 4.8%, in Belarus - by 3.6%.

During four months, the index in Azerbaijan grew by 0.5%. During the first quarter, the growth of industrial production in Uzbekistan totaled 9.9% compared to the first quarter of 2008 (the country did not provide statistics in April).

During January-April, the maximum annual inflation among the CIS countries again appeared in Ukraine - 19.1% compared to January-April of 2008. In January-April, the annual prices in Kyrgyzstan increased by 15.3%, in Belarus - by 15.2%. In January-April of 2009, the annual inflation in Russia totaled 13.6%. During January-April, the annual prices in Tajikistan increased by 10%, in Kazakhstan - by 8.8%, in Azerbaijan - by 6.5%, in Georgia - by 2.5%, in Moldova - by 2.3%, in Armenia - by 2.3% too.

During January-April of 2009, the average Gross Domestic Product among the CIS countries decreased by 9% compared to January-April of 2008, the index of industrial production lowered by 16%, cargo shipment - by 20%, retail turnover - by 3%.

During January-April, Azerbaijan showed the highest growth of the GDP among the CIS countries with the calculated index - up 4.3%. During January-April, the GDP in Tajikistan increased by 2.9%, in Belarus - by 1.2%, in Kyrgyzstan - by 0.5%. In Armenia the GDP decreased by 9.7%.

During January-April of 2009, the average level of consumer prices in the CIS countries increased by 14% compared to January-April of 2008.
