CIS countries boost meat, milk output in Jan-Sept
CIS countries increased output of livestock and poultry (in live weight) by 9% in January-September 2007 compared to the same period of 2006, the CIS Intergovernmental Statistics Committee said.
The highest growth rates in livestock production in the period were seen in Russia and Ukraine, where output rose 10% in both countries to 5.37 million tonnes and 1.87 million tonnes, respectively. Azerbaijan boosted livestock output 9% to 221,000 tonnes, while Armenia and Tajikistan both increased production by 7% to 79,000 tonnes and 74,000 tonnes, respectively.
The leader in milk production growth rates among CIS countries in the nine months was Tajikistan, where output grew 4% to 392,000 tonnes. Milk production rose 1% to 25.76 million tonnes in Russia and 3% in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia to 4.148 million tonnes, 974,000 tonnes and 565,000 tonnes, respectively.
Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus reduced milk output by 6%, 7% and 0.6%, respectively, in January-September 2007, Interfax reported.
The highest growth rates in egg production in the period were seen in Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, where output grew 16% to 294 million eggs and 370 million eggs, respectively. Russia increased egg production 0.4% to 29.1 billion eggs, Azerbaijan - 13% to 674 million and Tajikistan - 4% to 82 million. Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine reduced egg output by 3%, 6% and 2%, respectively.
The committee does not possess statistics on livestock production in Georgia, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan.
