Uzbekistan 25/06/2007 China to have good-neighborly ties with all SCO member countries

China is expected to have good-neighborly treaties with all five other SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) member countries in the latest session of its top legislature opened on Sunday.

The State Council, or the cabinet, has submitted the country’s good-neighborly treaty with Tajikistan -- the last SCO country on the waiting list -- to the legislative meeting for examination and approval.

The SCO, founded in Shanghai in 2001, comprises six member countries, namely China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It pledges to enhance security, trade, cultural, military and justice cooperation among member countries.

The Good-neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between China and Tajikistan, was signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Tajikistan President Emomali Rakhmon in Beijing on 15 January 2007.

Under the treaty, the two sides will enhance the fight against terrorism, separatism, extremism, organized crimes, illegal migration, weapon and drug trafficking, Xinhua of China reported.

Tajikistan vows in the treaty that it would not establish official ties in any form with Taiwan, nor engage in any official exchange or set up "representative bodies" with each other.

"Tajikistan, a neighboring country of China and an SCO member, values its relationship with China and has persistently supported China on issues concerning Taiwan, Tibet and the fight against ’East Turkistan’ terrorist organization," vice foreign minister Wu Dawei said.

The treaty, Wu said, will help China to further exchanges and cooperation with neighboring countries and maintain peace and stability of Central Asia and Asia as a whole.

"It’s in line with the basic interests of China," Wu added.
