Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- China strongly opposes US intentional denigration and pressure on Huawei and other Chinese companies. This was announced on 18 August by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian in response to the announcement of the American side about the introduction of additional restrictions on Huawei.
The diplomat told a press briefing that the US is abusing the concept of national security and state power to impose various restrictions on Chinese companies, which is "an open display of hegemony."
The day before, the US government announced plans to further tighten restrictions on Huawei Technologies in order to block its access to US technologies, and added 38 Huawei subsidiaries to the existing list of organizations that are prohibited from receiving certain "sensitive technologies."
The United States violates the rules of international trade and seriously damages global industrial supply chains, Zhao Lijian said, stressing that such moves would inevitably undermine the national interests and image of the American side.
In history, many successful companies from other countries have faced similar pressure from the United States, the Chinese diplomat said. This kind of inglorious behavior of the American side has caused and will continue to cause widespread rejection and resistance from other states, he said.
Over the past 30 years, Huawei has built more than 1,500 networks in more than 170 countries and regions of the world, provided services to 228 Fortune 500 companies, and served more than 3 billion people worldwide. At the same time, there was not a single fact of a cybersecurity violation, network monitoring or surveillance, such as the incidents with Edward Snowden, WikiLeaks or the scandal /massive covert information gathering within the framework of the American special services/ PRISM project. Also, there is no evidence in any country that Huawei is installing backdoors /security bypass tools/, said Zhao Lijian.
A spokesman for the PRC Foreign Ministry called on the US to immediately correct its mistakes, stop slandering China and put pressure on Chinese companies. The Chinese government will continue to take the necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, he added.
