Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 1 December, the fifth round of meetings between the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and China took place in Chengdu.
Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov noted, "Despite the growing challenges on the global stage, we observe strong and stable trends of growth, unity, and trust in our region."
He added that Central Asia and China are striving to strengthen existing ties and expand the horizons of cooperation through promising projects. The main goal is to improve the well-being of the peoples and ensure the long-term prosperity of the countries in the region.
"Today, we discussed the progress of implementing the outcomes of the first summit of this format and preparations for the upcoming summit in 2025," emphasized Bakhtiyor Saidov.
The ministers also discussed current issues related to economic partnership, peace and stability, environmental protection, public diplomacy, and other important topics.
According to CGTN, the meeting participants discussed in detail the preparations for the second China-Central Asia summit, which will be held in Kazakhstan next year.
China’s Foreign Minister summarized the meeting, highlighting five key consensuses reached by the countries.
Firstly, all six countries agreed to follow the instructions of the heads of state and make the China-Central Asia mechanism more efficient and sustainable.
Secondly, the states will strive for the modernization and deepening of comprehensive cooperation. China is ready to develop interaction with Central Asia in areas such as the implementation of the BeiDou satellite navigation system, poverty alleviation, combating desertification, higher education development and exchanges, as well as creating platforms for the exchange of experiences.
Thirdly, the countries will share both joys and challenges, support regional peace and stability, actively implement China’s proposed Global Security Initiative, counter foreign interference in the affairs of Central Asia, and promote the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Fourthly, the countries agreed to deepen mutual understanding of civilizations and strengthen the foundation of lasting friendship. Over the next three years, China will provide 1,500 educational opportunities for Central Asian countries and increase the number of scholarships by 600 to train specialists in key areas for the region.
Fifthly, the countries will support multilateralism, uphold international fairness and justice, strengthen coordination on international and regional issues, develop solidarity among Global South countries, and counter any attempts at "decoupling" and severing supply chains.
The Central Asian states expressed full support for China’s chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and will work together to further develop and strengthen the SCO.
