The III International Biennale "Joys of Tashkent" opened on November 29. Foyer of the exhibition hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan became a big stage, on which the representatives of the organizers, embassies, and educational institutions made speeches with words of welcome and congratulations. The performances by creative teams consisting of children continued the ceremony.
The Biennale is held in support of the artistic creativity of young talents, enriching contacts with their peers abroad, and understanding of different cultures, to increase the notions about art in young artists, to stimulate intellectual development of preschool and school-age children, increasing their interest in history and culture of the country and the world. Children at the ages from 5 to 15, including students of specialized schools for children with disabilities and orphanages, were involved in the Biennale.
Every single visitor to the Hall will witness a fascinating insight into an amazing, magical land of children's art, where there is only joy, laughter and fun, so ably personified with bright colors from young artists. The Biennale is especially important this year, as long as it is held in the framework of "The Year of Harmonically Developed Generation".
Director of the Children's International Biennale "Joys of Tashkent" Tohtasin Gaybullaev (Uzbekistan):
- This year we have expanded the geography of the participating countries; we have collected over 3500 pictures of young artists who have turned 5 but are under 16 out of 41 countries in the world! Most of the works are presented by Uzbek children - about half of them, more than 500 are written by children from the orphanages and specialized schools for children with disabilities. The second are participants from Kazakhstan; followed by works of children from Azerbaijan this year.
All works are evaluated according to the contest theme: "World of Childhood," "My Motherland", "The world I live in", "My Dream", "The Uzbekistan I know". The latter was the most popular among the young contestants. The children depicted the famous landscapes of our eastern cities: madrassahs of Samarkand, Bukhara, minarets, walls of Khiva, children wearing Uzbek national costumes, dishes with juicy fruits, and the legendary hospitality of the Uzbeks, drawing a rich dinner table, decorated with a festive dish-pilaf.
Pictures’ subjects were very diverse. Children's imagination knows no boundaries: works in such genres as still life, portraits, landscapes and even intergalactic fit in one stand. Kids used pencils, watercolors, markers, and crayons.
Participant Askar Asibekov, 12 years (Uzbekistan):
- I have participated in various competitions, starting from 1st grade, and have already won prizes. This time, I chose the theme "My Dream" and drew myself surrounded by the characters of my favorite fairy tales and cartoons.
Among international participants in the "Joys of Tashkent" Biennale, there are young talents from Russia, Arina Andreeva, 11 and Katya Kolesnikova, 9, along with their teacher, Irina Seliverstova:
- We are participating in such a big scale exhibition for the first time and this is our first visit to Uzbekistan. It gives us an incredible experience, because we felt like, we almost switched from winter to summer. It's so warm and sunny here, and this not only about the weather, but also about the hospitality and the respect. I want to thank the organizers of the Biennale for such a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the emotions obtained from the children's drawings.
Every child's picture itself is a masterpiece, because the author has invested a piece of himself and sincerity and spontaneity. But the competition will be competition, and as a result of Biennale, the winners and awardees will be determined. In addition to the main prizes, the Grand Prix, gold, silver and bronze medals, special prizes are established for the gifted children with disabilities by “Mehr Nuri” Foundation, “Kelajak Ovozi” Youth Initiatives Center, “Soglom avlod uchun” Foundation and UNICEF Representative Office in Uzbekistan. Winners will be determined by the Commission, consisting of prominent artists, art historians, experts in the field of children's creativity, eminent teachers of art, foreign intellectuals.
As a result of Biennale an album will be released consisting of the works of the winners, traveling exhibitions will also be organized.
