Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 1 March, a child injured in a gas explosion in Tashkent passed away while being transported to the hospital, the press service of the Tashkent city administration reported.

According to official data, six people were evacuated during the rescue operation. Several individuals sustained injuries in the incident, including two children. One child succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, while the other remains under medical supervision.

All the injured were handed over to emergency medical teams. Restoration work on the damaged residential building is currently underway.

The press service of the Emergency Situations Department reported that the explosion was caused by a deliberate act. A man living in the affected apartment attempted to take his own life by turning on the gas stove. The accumulation of a gas-air mixture led to ignition and an explosion. The man then jumped from the ninth floor and died.

The explosion occurred at approximately 15:23 in the Gulsanam neighborhood of the 4th quarter of Karasu Street in the Mirzo-Ulugbek district.

Earlier, the Emergency Situations Department had stated that there were no reports of casualties. Law enforcement officers and rescue teams continue to work at the scene.
