Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 16 May, Baku hosted a special meeting of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan - the Milli Majlis, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev. Leaders and members of parliaments of 26 countries, representatives of 4 international parliamentary organizations were invited to a special meeting. The event was also attended by the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.

First, the parliamentary delegations honored the memory of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers on his grave on Fakhr Avenue. After that, acquaintance with a photo exhibition dedicated to the personality and heritage of Heydar Aliyev took place in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Speakers at the special meeting noted that Heydar Aliyev is a well-known political and statesman of the 20th century, the founder of independent Azerbaijan, and his multifaceted activities served to increase the international prestige of the country.

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva stressed that the economic and social development of Azerbaijan, the formation of national unity and a radical change in national thinking are associated with the name of Heydar Aliyev, and it was with such a leader of the nation as Heydar Aliyev that Azerbaijan gained a high reputation in the international arena in a short time as a progressive and independent country.

- I want to emphasize that the memory of Heydar Aliyev is highly valued in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek people will always remember the contribution of this historical figure, a great politician to the development and strengthening of fraternal ties between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. His memory is immortalized in our country. Today, one of the central streets of Tashkent bears the name of Heydar Aliyev; a memorial bas-relief has been erected in his blessed memory. This is a manifestation of the high respect of the Uzbek people for the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, - emphasized the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
