Chairperson of the Senate meets with the UN Deputy Secretary-General in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva is in Geneva, Switzerland, on a practical visit to participate in the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

As part of the visit, the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya.

Various areas of effective cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN were discussed, including issues of expanding joint programs and projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure gender equality.

It was separately noted that cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN has reached a qualitatively new level, about 140 programs and projects are being implemented.

Tatiana Valovaya highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan in implementing the SDGs and noted that it is possible to organize an additional event on the topic “Strategy for sustainable development after 2030.”

In her opinion, the Samarkand Forum serves as a unique platform for women deputies to exchange views and develop recommendations for the implementation of Goal 17 and beyond 2030.

At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues of ensuring human rights and freedoms, gender equality, and the empowerment of women.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue the systemic dialogue and strengthen cooperation by expanding joint projects.
