Chairperson of the Senate discusses issues of cooperation with the Secretary General of the Advisory Council of the State of Qatar

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Advisory Council of the State of Qatar Ahmad Nasir Al-Fadala on 19 December.

It should be noted that the high-level dialogue, which has become regular in recent years, has played an important role in bringing bilateral relations to a qualitatively and meaningfully new level.

In particular, the state visits of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to our country on 5-6 June and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Doha on 1-2 October marked the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, broad areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar were discussed, as well as prospects for further strengthening inter-parliamentary ties.

The volume of mutual trade and investment between the two countries is increasing, large joint projects are being prepared and implemented. The parties noted that despite this, economic indicators, in particular the volume of mutual trade, do not fully reflect the capabilities of states and the existing potential and capabilities are sufficient to increase it significantly.

In this regard, it was emphasized that it is necessary to intensify inter-parliamentary relations and take them to a new level, uniting the joint efforts of the two states.

As a practical mechanism for this, it was proposed to ensure the regularity of mutual visits and to develop and approve a draft relevant document on interparliamentary cooperation as soon as possible.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached regarding the development of mutual dialogue within the framework of various international organizations and parliamentary structures.
