Chairman of State Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan and UNWTO Secretary General discuss development of tourism
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairman of the State Committee of Tourism of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Secretary General of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai held negotiaions.

Elected Secretary General for the period 2018-2021 Zurab Pololikashvili also attended the meeting.

During the meeting the sides discussed main directions of further cooperation of Uzbekistan with UNWTO.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed on development and signing in November 2017 of “Country Program for development of tourism in Uzbekistan”, the press service of the State Committee for Tourism said.

Within the framework of the document, the parties intend to cooperate in promoting and branding national tourism product of Uzbekistan in the world tourism market, as well as studying experience of foreign countries in introducing an electronic visa (e-visa).

Also, the parties will conduct various trainings in the format of “training for trainers” and online courses for tourism workers. UNWTO will also render its assistance in developing national tourism product of Uzbekistan and entering new markets.

The approval of the document is planned to be held within the framework of the international travel exhibition World Travel Market - 2017 in London (United Kingdom) on 6-8 November 2017.

Uzbekistan will also attract grants from the UNWTO.Themis Foundation to train and upgrade the skills of tourism professionals. In the first stage, it was proposed to implement a program of preliminary assessment of educational institutions and centers in Uzbekistan, which train personnel for the tourism sector, to compliance to international standards.
