CER calculates benefit from transfer of Uzbekistan to green economy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Center for Economic Research (CER) published a study, which reveals opportunities and perspectives of transfer of Uzbekistan to green economy.

The study said that at current pace and the volume of resource consumptions, reserves of natural gas and coal in Uzbekistan will be sufficient for next 20-30 years, while oil reserves almost exhausted.

Besides, the area of irrigated lands will decrease by 20-25% in next 30 years, the document underlined.

CER noted that under current development scenario, shortage of land, water, energy and other resources, as well as ecologic consequences of irrational use of natural capital, will hinder to economic growth.

Transfer to green economy will help to ensure growth of well-being and improve life conditions of population, without exposing next generations to ecologic risks or ecologic deficit.

According to study results, experts determined five key directions of transfer of Uzbekistan to green economy – introduction of renewable energy, “greening” housing-communal sector, development of “clean” transport, improvement waste management system and improve land and water management systems.

Experts calculated additional annual benefit from transfer to green economy on each above-mention direction. For example, Uzbekistan can receive benefit over US$5 billion from renewable energy.

At the same time, “green policy” can create additional jobs. According to the calculations, only renewable energy sector can create up to 175,000 new jobs by 2020 and 270,000 new jobs by 2050.
