Central Bank imposes penalties on banks and microfinance organizations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In August of the current year, the Central Bank’s Banking Supervision Committee reviewed 42 issues, resulting in several decisions.

According to the regulator’s data, 30 questions were addressed in the area of registration and licensing. These included amendments to the charters of credit organizations (7 questions), registration of microfinance organizations (1 question), and the review of candidates for supervisory boards and executive committees of commercial banks and key personnel (22 questions).

The committee also examined 12 issues related to the financial condition of credit organizations, compliance with Central Bank regulations and prudential requirements, and the results of audits of commercial banks and microfinance organizations.

As a result of these audits, the Central Bank imposed penalties on 2 banks and 1 microfinance organization for identified violations.

Additionally, 7 microfinance organizations, 2 payment system operators, and 27 commercial banks received warnings for non-compliance with statutory capital requirements, organizational-legal forms, Central Bank regulations, prudential requirements, and anti-money laundering rules.

The committee also directed the management of commercial banks and microfinance organizations to address the identified deficiencies, develop appropriate measures, adhere to prudential norms, rectify weaknesses in banking operations, and improve financial conditions to ensure the stability of the banking system and protect the rights of depositors and investors.
