Uzbekistan 29/09/2009 Central Asian parliamentarians to review fight against HIV/AIDS at Bishkek conference

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Bishkek will host the Fourth Interparliamentary Conference of Central Asia and Azerbaijan on legislative measures to support fight against HIV/AIDS on 6-7 October.

Parliamentarians from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, representatives of international and non-governmental organizations are invited for the event.

The conference participants will review practice implementation of harm reduction programs. They will visit syringe exchange centers and methadone treatment program centers in medical facilities and correctional institutions.

During this two-day even the conference participants will exchange experience on improvement of HIV/AIDS legislation.

The resolution on concrete steps aimed to improve the Central Asian legislation to prevent HIV-infection epidemic, including harm reduction programs.

The conference is conducted by the Parliament, AIDS Control Project in Central Asia, World Bank, UK DFID, UNAIDS, UNODC, UNDP Program on Support to the Government to Respond to HIV in the Kyrgyz Republic.
