Uzbekistan 07/01/2009 Center to fight drug smuggling in Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Centre will be established to combat illegal turnover of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan inked an agreement to establish the Centre on 26 January in 2006. The Centre will be established, when parliaments of the abovementioned countries ratify the agreement. Under the agreement, the Centre will be located in Almaty city of Kazakhstan.

The Centre as a juridical figure will be financed through funds of the donor states, aids of international organizations and endowments of the member-countries.

Among tasks of the Centre are coordination of the participant-countries’ regional-level efforts in struggle against illegal drugs turnover, creation of mutual contact mechanisms amongst authoritative bodies and assistance in strengthening struggle of the participant-countries against the international organized crimes on illegal drugs turnover.
