Cengiz Energy San. ve Tic A.Ş. to build a power plant in Jizzakh region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Turkish company Cengiz Enerji San. ve Tic A.Ş. will build a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 550 MW in Jizzakh region.

On 8 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures to implement the investment project “Construction of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 550 MW in Jizzakh region.”

Cengiz Energy San. ve Tic A.Ş. is an investor in the project. Cenergo is the project company.

It was initially planned that the power plant’s capacity would be 400 MW. Later it was reported that the power plant’s capacity would be 450 MW. In August 2023, it was reported that the facility’s capacity would be 500 MW. The presidential resolution states that the power plant’s capacity will be 550 MW.

The document notes that the volume of direct investment in this project will exceed US$500 million. The new power plant will be commissioned in 2025. The station will produce more than 4 billion kWh of electricity per year. Also, the commissioning of this facility will save 700 million cubic meters of gas.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved organizational measures for the implementation of the project. In particular,

The President instructed government agencies to allocate funds for the construction of infrastructure to supply gas to the power plant. The Ministry of Water Resources, UzGasTrade, Uztransgaz and National Electric Networks (NES) companies have been instructed to sign contracts for the supply of natural gas and process water for the power plant.

The power plant will be built in Sharaf Rashidov district of Jizzakh region. A land plot of 9.54 hectares will be allocated for the project.

The resolution states that the project company must provide a first-tier foreign bank guarantee of US$2 million to ensure the proper performance of its obligations during the construction period.

The project company undertakes to guarantee the sale of produced electricity to the National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan company in a guaranteed manner. NES also undertakes to guarantee the purchase of electricity for 25 years.

The document states that electricity will be purchased at a fixed tariff in foreign currency. In this case, payment will be made in national currency.
