BYD Uzbekistan Factory pays 366.6 billion soums in taxes

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — BYD Uzbekistan Factory has commented on reports regarding its tax contributions.

Social media circulated data based on information from the Tax Committee, indicating that from January to May, BYD Uzbekistan Factory transferred 23.9 billion soums in taxes to the budget.

These figures were compared with those of the fast-food chain Evos (Mak Food Servis), which paid 26.5 billion soums in taxes in the first half of the year.

In an official statement, the company clarified that there have been posts on social media regarding the tax payments of BYD Uzbekistan Factory for the first five months of 2024 amounting to 23.9 billion soums. The authors of these posts compared the tax contributions of the electric vehicle manufacturer with those of a food service chain, suggesting that producing shawarma and lavash is allegedly more profitable than manufacturing electric cars.

"The conclusions drawn on social media based on partially published data from the Tax Committee are biased and distort the public perception of the company’s activities," emphasized BYD Uzbekistan Factory.

The statement also noted that none of the bloggers who shared this information reached out to the company for clarification or confirmation of the data.

BYD Uzbekistan Factory clarified that for the first six months of 2024, the company contributed over 332.1 billion soums in value-added tax, approximately 30.1 billion soums in profit tax, 2.2 billion soums in personal income tax, and 2.2 billion soums as a single social payment. Thus, the total amount of tax payments reached 366.6 billion soums, accounting for about 21% of the company’s total turnover.

The company also highlighted its significant investments in constructing a high-tech factory and equipping it with modern equipment, which has enabled Uzbekistan to become one of the ten countries in the world to produce electric and hybrid vehicles.
