Business climate improves in agriculture and construction - CERR survey

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the same time, the business climate in the industry remained unchanged, while in the service sector it slightly decreased due to the end of the holiday season and the beginning of the school year.

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) conducted another round of a survey among enterprises throughout the country. Over 1,500 companies took part in the September survey.

Monthly research is carried out in two directions:

•qualitative assessment of the current state of the business;

•expectations of business development prospects in the next three months.

In September, the consolidated indicator of the business climate improved by 1 point compared to the previous month and amounted to 65 points. This state of the business climate is assessed as positive.

Changes in the business climate have taken place in the sectoral context. The improvement of the composite index was significantly affected by the positive dynamics of business climate indicators in agriculture (74 points) and construction (57 points), which showed an increase compared to August by 9 and 5 points, respectively.

The business climate in the industrial sector remained unchanged (67 p.). In the service sector, it slightly decreased by 4 points, which is associated with the end of the holiday season and the beginning of the school year.

The current state of business indicator improved by two points (57p.) due to construction and agriculture.

The share of respondents who rated the current state of the business as good increased to 50%, while those who rated it as bad decreased to 8%. At the same time, 24% of enterprises increased the number of their employees, and 50% noted an increase in demand for their goods/services.

The indicator of expectations of business development prospects in the next 3 months remains at a fairly high level - 73 points, which is also supported by high optimism in the areas of agriculture - 84 points and industry - 75 points.

The share of entrepreneurs who expect an improvement in the general condition of the business in the next 3 months has not changed and amounted to 73%, 66% expect a further increase in demand for goods and services, and 60% plan to increase the number of employees.

Entrepreneurs’ expectations regarding the rise in prices for goods and services produced fell to 24%.

In general, the relationship between indicators of the current situation and expectations means that the positive trend in the development of the economy will continue in the next 3 months.

Among all respondents, 53% stated that there are no obstacles in the development of entrepreneurial activity. At the same time, the share of agricultural entrepreneurs who declared that there were no obstacles increased by 19% over the month. In addition, in the field of agriculture, the share of entrepreneurs who noted problems with water supply decreased by 2.5 times and amounted to 6%.
