Economy 03/03/2011 Business circles of Uzbekistan and India hold negotiations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A business forum of entrepreneurial circles of Uzbekistan and India was held at the International Business Center in Tashkent on 2 March 2011.

The forum was organized within the visit of the delegation of Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India led by director of Institute on Developing Entrepreneurship Dinesh Avastkhi to Uzbekistan. The delegation included Indian companies, operating in various sectors.

The forum considered issues on increasing trade turnover, number of joint ventures. The participants discussed implementation of high technologic projects at the Navoi industrial-economic zone.

The participants also familiarized with perspectives of bilateral cooperation in various spheres of economy and investment potential of Uzbekistan.

Head of the delegation Dinesh Avastkhi underlined that both countries have significant economic potential and rich experience.

He said that leading Indian companies are actively working with the Uzbek businesses. Favourable investment climate, conditions and preferences, created in Uzbekistan for foreign businesses, strengths interest of Indian business circles to Uzbekistan.

Dinesh Avastkhi underlined that despite global economic crisis, bilateral trade relations are growing stabile. He said that trade turnover between two states increased from US$79.4 million in 2000 to US$124.9 million in 2009.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek-Indian trade turnover in 2010 grew by 21.1% year-on-year to US$151 million.

Currently, eighteen Indian companies and organizations, working in production and pharmaceutical sectors, are accredited in Uzbekistan. There are also 62 enterprises with Indian capital, including eleven with 100% Indian investment. These enterprises produce consumer goods, medicaments, textile products, washing means, processing leather and agriculture products.

After the forum, the cooperation exchange between businesses of India and Uzbekistan was held.
