British delegation pays visit to Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Great Britain led by Permanent Under Secretary of State of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Simon Fraser paid a visit to Uzbekistan on 4-5 November 2010, the Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

The delegation held negotiations with leadership of Senate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan.

The sides exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of cooperation in politics, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The sides discussed actual regional and international issues of mutual interest, including situation in Central Asia, establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan, rational use of water resources in the region.

Permanent Under Secretary of State expressed interest of London in developing cooperation with Uzbekistan, deepening political dialogue and trade-economic relations, as well as interaction on ensuring stability in Afghanistan.

Simon Fraser said that the visit is sign of interest of the British side in further developing of bilateral cooperation. “We want to develop cooperation and we are grateful for support on holding of next session of the Uzbek-British council on trade and industry,” he said.

He expressed his assurance that fruitful results will be achieved in the result of the seventh session of the Uzbek-British council on trade and industry, which is planned to hold in Tashkent on 9 Decemeber 2010.

Fraser positively ranked cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union. The Government of the United Kingdom welcomes further strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union, he said.

Within the visit to Uzbekistan, Permanent Under Secretary of State Simon Fraser paid a visit to Westminster International University in Tashkent and held talks with students and teachers.
