British ambassador calls on new education ministers
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21-22 April 2010 Rupert Joy, British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, and Steve McNulty, Director of the British Council Uzbekistan, made introductory calls on Uzbekistan’s newly appointed Education Ministers: Avazjon Marakhimov, Minister of Public Education, and Bakhodir Khodiev, Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education.

They discussed existing bilateral co-operation in the sphere of education and possible ways of developing further co-operation between the two countries.

The Ministers noted the fruitful co-operation of the British Council with the educational institutions of Uzbekistan, which includes projects supported by the British Council aimed at improving English language skills and projects to perfect professional skills and methodology in learning and teaching of English.

Rupert Joy noted the attention given to education in the country and the potential of its young people. He underlined that the UK sees itself as one of Uzbekistan’s key partners on education, and stressed the importance of person-to-person contact.
