Eighth seeded Denis Istomin played against Thiemo de Bakker of the Nethwelands in the first round of the tournament.

Istomin claimed the first set in tie-break – 7/6 (5), while in the second set Uzbek number one recorded break point to take it with the score 6/4.

The match lasted an hour and 30 minutes. Istomin recorded 6 aces compared to 10 of de Bekker. He converted one of three break points, while de Bekker’s could not convert any of two.

In the women’s tournament, Uzbekistan number one Akgul Amanmuradova crushed out in the first round, losing Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic – 6/3, 3/6 and 6/2.
