Boeing and Airbus confirm the possibility of using Uzbekistan GTL synthetic avikerosene as a component for aviation fuel

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The world’s largest aircraft manufacturing companies, American Boeing and French Airbus, have confirmed the possibility of using synthetic GTL avikerosene produced at the Uzbekistan GTL plant as a component for Jet A-1 aviation fuel. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

On 23 September 2022, Boeing officially confirmed the possibility of using GTL kerosene produced at the Uzbekistan GTL plant as a blending component with traditional Jet A-1 aviation fuel produced at the Bukhara refinery.

On 25 September, Airbus sent a similar confirmation, referring to the international standards ASTM7566, which regulates technical requirements in the field of aviation fuel.

At the same time, on 22 September, the Swiss company SGS, which carries out independent examination, control, testing and certification, confirmed the compliance of the quality of GTL Jet A-1 semi-synthetic jet fuel produced at the Bukhara Oil Refinery with international standards, which allows it to be used as a fuel for aviation.

According to the project, GTL kerosene produced at the Uzbekistan GTL plant will be used as a component for blending with petroleum kerosene to produce Jet A-1 semi-synthetic aviation fuel. At the same time, the specialists of the GTL plant are working to obtain permission from international regulators in the field of aviation fuel for the direct use of GTL kerosene as an aviation fuel without the need to mix it with traditional fuel.

Compared to conventional petroleum-derived kerosene, GTL kerosene burns with significantly lower levels of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the amount of emissions from jet fuel combustion, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Annually, the Uzbekistan GTL plant has the ability to produce up to 500,000 tons of synthetic kerosene.
