Participants discussed multifaceted cooperation within the CIS and current political issues of mutual interest, including a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis. They pointed to the need for closer foreign policy coordination at the largest international venues, such as the UN and the OSCE. In this connection, they adopted a statement on the 40th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act and approved a plan of consultations between the CIS foreign ministries for 2015.

The ministers also approved a draft agreement on disaster prevention and relief and a programme for cooperation in strengthening security on their external borders in 2016-2020.

The discussion also focused on the cultural aspects of the parties’ multifaceted cooperation. In particular, the ministers coordinated a number of important documents designed to strengthen relations in culture and education.

The ministers also discussed draft documents aimed at strengthening their partnership in law enforcement and defence, in particular, the creation of a group of border agencies and bodies of the CIS member states to settle potential crises on their external borders. They discussed the draft guidelines for the development of a joint radiation, chemical and biological control system at the CIS defence ministries to 2020, decisions regarding an agency to train military humanitarian professionals, and a concept for the development of paramilitary sports in the CIS armies.

The parties agreed that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers would be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in October 2015, ahead of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
