Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Ukrainian consumer goods manufacturer Biosphere Corporation plans to open a production facility for garbage bags in Uzbekistan next year.
The company aims to actively promote its products in the Uzbek market as well as neighboring Central Asian countries.
In an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, the founder and CEO of the corporation, Andriy Zdesenko, explained that this decision will help fully utilize the capacity of the Polygreen factory in Fastiv, which is currently operating at only 80% of its capacity.
Additionally, the opening of the production plant in Uzbekistan will enable the construction of a new factory in Ukraine to produce pellets, which will then be exported to Uzbekistan for the production of garbage bags that will be distributed to neighboring countries.
Zdesenko noted that Uzbekistan protected its market by imposing a ban on the export of garbage bags of certain thicknesses, which became a driving force for local production. He also mentioned that logistics costs to the region, such as to Kazakhstan, have significantly increased due to the war, making production in Uzbekistan economically viable.
He believes that to remain in the Uzbek market, where the population is expected to grow to 40 million within the next five years, it is necessary to begin local production.
Currently, Biosphere Corporation’s facilities in Ukraine include three factories with a total area of 35,000 sq. m, located in Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, and Khmelnytsky regions, as well as logistics complexes covering 30,000 sq. m.
In partnership with the French company Groupe Lemoine, Biosphere also owns a factory in Estonia for cotton products, covering 8,500 sq. m. The company’s product portfolio includes over 1,000 items under 16 proprietary brands such as Freken BOK, Smile, Selpak, Vortex, Novita, PRO Service, LayiKit, Bambik, and others.
