Biennale, a treasure trove of artistic food for thought
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Style.Uz Art Week 2011 kicked off with the 6th Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art which offers a string of major exhibitions, press service of Style.Uz Art Week 2011 said.

Following welcome speeches at the opening ceremony the sizable art-loving crowd scattered across the three showrooms on the first floor of the Youth Creativity Palace to see what this year’s Biennale has to offer.

Housed across the first floor of the Palace are three exhibitions of works by international artists. One of the most intriguing is an exhibition of Spanish Catalan painter Joan Miró and contemporary Spanish impressionists Luis Amer, Martin Carral and Jorge Núñez.

Joan Miró is a recognized leader in surrealism and abstract art. Among his creations that include etchings and lithographs on display the one that merits particular attention is a series of artworks titled Mallorca, a Spanish island where Miró spent his last years. A careful look at the abstract strokes that seemingly defy logical interpretation will reveal elements of nature: leaves, flowers and animals. The shapes of the images are formed by irregular, blurry lines that feature prominently through the series. Inside are motley spots of bright colors: red, yellow, green and blue. These artworks are full of life and require a long hard look and mirror Mallorca’s sunny milieu.

Equally interesting are the creations by the contemporary artists. Luis Amer, for one, places emphasis on raving colors that surround us, with the sea seemingly one of his favorite themes. The soft pastel colors that make up the trademark feature of Jorge Núñez’s works – landscapes – appear to be a canvas embodiment of feelings and emotions that the artist has gone through. Martin Carral’s creations are diametrically opposite. His works feature sharp angles, geometrical shapes and direct light void of halftones.

Russian photo artist Igor Vishnyakov’s creations are inspired by the Silver Age and oriental motifs. The photos seem artificially aged with the use of graphic tricks, and thus look retrospective.

The final exhibition – “I am the Style” Faberge Contemporary Art Exhibition – offers an assortment of photos, paintings and installations, with the large legged eggs inspired by the world-renowned Faberge eggs drawing immediate attention. The exhibition draws on seven stories that artistically characterize the life of world-famous jeweler Carl Faberge. Of special note is the story with Vatslav Nijinsky, a Russian ballet legend of the past century, crafted in the form of a trendy photo art.

Each of the three Biennale showrooms running as part of Style.Uz Art Week bears an artistic concept that provides food for thought whilst paving way for contemplation and further creation.
