Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to start three joint film projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Belarus and Uzbekistan plan to start three joint film projects in 2021. Director General of the National Film Studio "Belarusfilm" Vladimir Karachevsky told about this after negotiations with representatives of the National Agency "Uzbekkino" and film studios of Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.

This year, private Uzbek film studios with the support of "Uzbekkino" plan to start shooting several films in Belarus, for which "Belarusfilm" will provide its services. “Today the film studio hosts representatives of three Uzbek films. This is a film directed by Akbar Bekturdiev "Uzbek Woman" about a girl sniper, 90% of which is planned to be shot in Belarus. The second project will be a motion picture about the 1916 Jizzakh uprising, in Belarus some episodes of war scenes and St. Petersburg exteriors and interiors will be captured. In addition, we discussed the issue of co-producing another story. It is about the Hero of the Soviet Union, Uzbek Mamadali Topvaldyev, who fought with the fascist invaders in the deep rear as a Belarusian partisan,” the director general of the Belarusian film studio emphasized.

“The films that we will start to create will strengthen the strong friendly foundation that already exists,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, director general of the Uzbekkino National Agency.

According to Vladimir Karachevsky, cooperation in the creation of films, participation in festivals, exchange of experience give the development of film culture and business relations both between film studios and between countries.

Film crews of future films during their stay in Belarus will visit locations for filming in Minsk, Gomel, Bobruisk, Brest, on the field site of the film studio.

“Until recently, the last joint film project between Belarus and Uzbekistan was the film “Unforgotten Song” produced in the USSR in 1973 by director Ravil Batyrov. They began to renew their acquaintance in 2017, perhaps this is due to the interest in cinema at the highest level,” said Vladimir Karachevsky.

In 2020, with the participation of the Belarusfilm film studio, military episodes of the Uzbek films Ilhak directed by Jakhongir Akhmedov about the tragic story of Zulfiya Zakirova, who lost five sons in the war, were filmed in Belarus. The tape was successfully shown on all TV channels of Uzbekistan on May 9, 2020. The second project was the film "Meros" (Legacy) directed by Khilol Nasimov. It tells the story of ancient friendship, the unity of traditions and beliefs of the Uzbek and Kazakh peoples. The last motion picture "Spring of Love" directed by Ibrahim Rasulov shows the childhood and work of the poet and politician Hamid Alimdzhan. The last two films have not yet been released.

“The Uzbek colleagues highly appreciated the professionalism of the Belarusian actors, creative and technical specialists,” added Vladimir Karachevsky.
