Begu to clash with teenager Vekic in Finals of Tashkent Open
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Qualifier teenager Dona Vekic of Croatia rolled past last year’s finalist Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic to set up a title clash with Giant Killer Irina -Camelia Begu of Romania at the 14th edition of Tashkent Open WTA Tennis Championships

Vekic who came into the event as a qualifier won h er seventh match on a trot here scoring a 6-1,3-6,6-1 win over Birnerova currently ranked 133 on the Women’ Tour in 1 hour 34 minutes, while Begu upset the tired looking second seed Urszula Radwanska 6-3,6-3 in 1 hour 18 minutes.

For the 16 year old Croat who made her WTA main debut here played freely breaking the 28 year old Birnerova in the 4th and 6th games in the first set. In the second set Birnerova broke Vekic in the 8th game to level the set scores . In the third set Vekic secured breaks in the 2nd and 4th games .

Vekic blasted 9 aces in the match , while Birnerova who was trying to make it to the second final on a trot her served poorly serving as many as 10 double faults in the match. Vekic currently ranked 183 is projected to crack the world’s top 135 by reaching the finals.

In a one sided match giant killer Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania kept up her upset spree accounting for second seeded Urszula Radwanska 6-3, 6-3 in a match lasting 1 hour and 18 minutes.

Begu who played a 3 hour thriller against eighth seeded Voskoboeva yesterday, continued her good form breaking the higher ranked Radwanska in the 1st, 5th and the 9th games , but was herself broken in the 4th games to win the set 6-3 in 37 minutes.

In the second set Begu broke the tired looking Radwanska in the 4th and the 6th games to race to a 5-1 lead , but then lost her seventh game to Radwanska who looked like making a comeback taking two games in row and narrowing the lead to 5-3. Begu played solidly in the 9th game hitting the ball really hard to hold and making it to her first career finals on the WTA tour event.
