Beeline’s net income in Uzbekistan makes up US$66.5m in 2008
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Vimpel-Communications (VimpelCom) open joint-stock company, a leading provider of wireless telecommunications services in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) said on Wednesday, 13 May, its Uzbek subsidiary’s net operating revenue grew by 1.82 times to US$66.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Russian firm said that US$63.5 million of net revenue came from mobile communication operations and US$3 million from fixed communication operations. VimpelCom also owns Buzton, alternative fixed communication and Internet provider.

The company said Unitel LLC, subsidiary of VimpelCom OJSC, rendering mobile communication services under Beeline trademark in the territory of Uzbekistan, served about 3.6 million users in the reporting period. The growth rate of subscribers’ base made up 2.7 times year-on-year. The market share of the company in Uzbekistan fell from 37.3% in the fourth quarter of 2007 to 29.6% in the same period of 2008.

The MOU increased from 283.4 minutes in the fourth quarter 2007 to 288.6 minutes in the reporting period. MOU (Monthly Average Minutes of Use per User) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage for incoming and outgoing calls during the relevant period (excluding guest roamers) by the average number of subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

ARPU decreased from US$6.8 in the fourth quarter of 2007 to US$6.6 in the same period of 2008. ARPU (Monthly Average Revenue per User) is calculated by dividing the company’s service revenue during the relevant period, including roaming revenue and interconnect revenue, but excluding revenue from connection fees, sales of handsets and accessories and other non-service revenue, by the average number of the company’s subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

Third quarter OIBDA increased by 92.1% year-on-year to US$34.2 million, while OIBDA margin made up 51.4%. OIBDA is defined as operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is OIBDA expressed as a percentage of total net operating revenues.
