Beeline Uzbekistan expands compliance horizons

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Tashkent hosted the international forum "Know your partner: tools that work," highlighting the importance of ethical business practices. Representatives of the VEON Group discussed ways to build secure partnerships and drive business growth by upholding compliance principles.

The forum, organized by Beeline Uzbekistan (part of the VEON Group), brought together around 100 participants, including representatives of major companies, banks, government organizations, and universities in Uzbekistan. They explored ways to avoid reputational and financial losses caused by legal violations or untrustworthy suppliers, as well as strategies to prevent workplace misconduct.

"This is the second forum focused on compliance, and based on the level of engagement from our guests, it's clear how important this topic is for our country. Many participants highlighted that the compliance field is developing rapidly in Uzbekistan. The experience shared by leading companies and regulatory bodies was particularly valuable, as they had the chance to discuss legal compliance challenges together at the forum," says Alina Akchurina, Ethics & Compliance Officer at Beeline Uzbekistan.

Forum experts provided a detailed examination of the key stages of the procurement process, highlighting the need for fairness and maximum transparency for all participants. This ensures that supplier selection is justified, which is critical for both government organizations and commercial companies that value their reputation. According to representatives of Beeline Uzbekistan, they support all Uzbek companies within the VEON Group, such as ADTECH, NTI, and BEELAB. This helps promote the adoption of international ethical business standards across the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Forum participants also discussed other risks. For example, a lack of thorough partner selection could lead to data breaches involving commercially sensitive or valuable information. One potential solution to these issues is to involve compliance specialists in the procurement process and to give them the right to veto.

The forum featured international experts from VEON. Opening the event, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu encouraged participants to make greater use of compliance tools. Gabriela Gutierrez, Head of Ethics and Compliance at VEON, then shared insights from international specialists.

"Compliance departments do not only prevent risks. They bring undeniable value to the business and, as a result, enhance the company's capitalization. I am confident that the exchange of best practices will have a positive impact on the results of the forum participants," said Gabriela Gutierrez.
