Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chinese New Year has historical charm and modern style. Although Chinese New Year and Bengali New Year have different customs, they both symbolize a new beginning.

On 17 January 2024, a photo exhibition entitled “Life in Yunnan - A Taste of Chinese New Year” was held at the exhibition hall of North South University of Bangladesh. Through hundreds of beautiful photographs, local youth experienced the atmosphere of this Festival and the way of life in Yunnan Province.

This photo exhibition is part of an event called “The Voice of Spring. Golden Dream”, which includes an international New Year gala and a series of cultural exchange events as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations. It was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, the Press Office of the Yunnan Provincial Government and the Foreign Affairs Department of the Yunnan Provincial Government. The exhibition showcases the richness of life in Yunnan through hundreds of beautiful photographs.

Yunnan, located on the southwestern border of China, is a diverse and beautiful province of China. This is a place where great rivers and mountain ranges, snowy peaks and rain forests, alpine lakes and other amazing natural phenomena merge. Yunnan is known as the kingdom of flora and fauna, the kingdom of non-ferrous metals, and as a beautiful homeland for 26 nationalities living in harmony. It is also an important transport corridor linking China with Southeast Asia and South Asia.

President of North South University Atiqul Islam noted that he has visited China many times. China’s vibrant culture and rapid progress, as well as the beautiful scenery, kind people and rich biodiversity of Yunnan left deep impressions on him. China is a good friend and partner of Bangladesh. This exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for Bangladeshi students to experience the Chinese New Year and Yunnan culture. This promotes mutual understanding and exchange between the two countries.

“The diversity and coexistence on display at the exhibition made a deep impression on me,” said Bulbul Ashraf Siddiqui, associate professor of political science and sociology at North South University.

“Seeing how different nations coexist harmoniously in Yunnan, preserving their unique ways of life and national culture in the process of development, touched me deeply,” the scientist added.

A second-year student of the Faculty of English Philology at North South University, Eastik Shakib, felt the “colorfulness” of the Chinese New Year through a photo exhibition. He told reporters that Bangladesh also celebrates New Year according to the Bengali calendar. On this day, people also wear new clothes, enjoy traditional cuisine and participate in music and dance performances. “Although the customs of our New Year and Chinese New Year are slightly different, they both symbolize a new beginning and are filled with harmony,” said Istik Shakib.
